A breathtaking natural park just minutes from Chichen Itza.
Located just 3 kilometers (about 2 miles) from the Chichen Itza ruins, **Cenote Ik Kil** is one of Mexico's most iconic natural wonders. Known for its perfectly round shape and the lush vines that drape from its surface down into the turquoise water, it provides the quintessential cenote experience.
Unlike the Sacred Cenote, swimming is highly encouraged at Ik Kil. The water is about 40-50 meters (130-160 feet) deep, so life jackets are mandatory for all swimmers. There is a carved stone staircase that takes you down to the water platform, and a diving platform for those seeking a thrill.
The best angle for photography is from the top, looking down into the cenote to capture the vines trailing into the water. For underwater shots, a GoPro or waterproof phone case is essential. Note that professional tripod use may require a separate permit.
